Michael A. Baer

Biography
Michael Baer has been a trial lawyer since 1974. Mike has held the "AV Preeminent" rating from Martindale-Hubbell continuously since 1989. He was a Board Certified Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy continuously from 1991 to 2016 and has been honored with induction into the American Board of Trial Advocates. In his 30th year of practice, Mike was named an original Ohio "Super Lawyer", and has been so selected six times by his peers in medical malpractice and plaintiff's general personal injury and wrongful death. He has also been named "Best of the Bar" in the greater Dayton area by the Dayton Daily News in plaintiff's medical malpractice.
For the past thirty years or so, Mike has focused his practice on medical malpractice, accident and other cases involving catastrophic injury and wrongful death. He and his trial partners have achieved some of the largest case resolutions (verdict or settlement) in the area. These include a trucking negligence wrongful death and injury case which was settled well in excess of five million dollars after years of litigation, as well as numerous medical malpractice and other injury cases that resulted in recoveries in excess of a million dollars. One of these malpractice cases involved the representation of a young man and his family who resided in the United Kingdom. The malpractice had occurred in the U.S. when the boy was an infant, and this litigation required numerous trips to and depositions in the U.K., including the videotaped trial testimony depositions of five British specialty physicians who treated our young client and served as some of our expert witnesses. He and his trial team were also primary counsel for the Piqua City Maintenance employee lottery winners.
Mike derives great satisfaction from helping grievously injured persons and families put their lives back together, and he is proud that many of his cases come from referrals from other law firms and judges. His practice is client-people based, rather than volume-money focused, and he has had the privilege to represent negligence victims from all walks of life, including a sitting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of another state.
A 1974 graduate of Ohio State University College of Law, with honors Mike is a past member (1998-2014) of the American College of Legal Medicine and many other professional organizations. He also serves as Certified Bar Counsel for the Miami County Bar Association and its Ethics and Grievance Committee.
He lives in Troy with his wife, Carol, an educator presently employed as an education supervisor with Wright State University. Mike and Carol have one daughter, Erica, an educator in the field of gifted and talented education.
